London, 12th April 1979
Dear Alejandrina:

We got your letter together with that of uncle Antonio. As usual we have taken our time in answering your previous one. Oscar is always promising to write but he is usually very busy and very tired. I was hoping he would write but as time flies by I cannot leave you waiting for news forever.
First of all I have to thank you for the lovely package we received some time ago. Everything was delicious and Pablo loved his ducky. He is starting to talk quite a lot and one of the words he knows is “duck” because he likes to go to the pond in the park and give bread to the ducks. He sometimes calls the pigeons or the sparrows “duck”, but he is getting there, don’t you think?
As I say, he is learning quite a lot of words, although he is just naming things at the moment. He is only speaking Spanish yet, because we speak it at home but when he is two and a half he’ll start going to the play group two hours a day three or four times a week so that he learns to speak English.
He is as nice and cheeky as ever as well as cuddly and loving. He grows very fast and looks more than three years old now. As he is very sociable he prefers to meet other children so every day we go out to visit friends, invite them home to play or go to the park. Already he shows high intelligence, is very active and curious and learns very quickly.

Changing the subject, thank you for everything you are doing to the flat, I hope you aren’t spending too much. Is Teresa’s leg better? How is Carolina? We saw her little face amongst the aunts, uncles and cousins in of granny’s birthday’s photo. She is lovely! Thank you for the fotos of Tony, Mariana and Pablito, they are so grown up that we almost didn’t recognise them.

Well, Alejandrina, I have to apologise again for not answering earlier. I hope you have seen the photo of Pablo drinking mate that I sent to your mum. It was the latest I had. I will send you more as soon as I take some. Lots of kisses to everyone and especially yourself, from

Patricia

Pablo drinking mate with abuela Tala

Hi, Alejandrina and Antonio!

I haven’t written for thousands of years, please forgive me. My life is extremely complicated; all I want to do when I get back from work is collapse on an armchair and become a vegetable (a turnip, perhaps?) until the next day. I’m no longer able to do things such as writing letters, etc. When I am not working I think of work. This is not a great problem because my work is giving me a lot of satisfaction. The other day I won the first prize to the best commercial of 1978.
I vowed to win the Oscar for best animated short with a film I am about to start for Paul McCartney…you’ll see.

Thank you for the package, but please don’t send panettone any more because it arrives in crumbs. It’s impossible to eat, like trying to eat flour.
In your last letter you mention that “we’ve had to pay something or other to finish the back wall of the building”. How much did you pay? Tell me and I will send you the money!

Now I will sit down again in my favourite armchair and drink a nice cup of orange tea while I watch a film about Al Capone on TV. I can feel how I slowly become a vegetable…
Kisses, good bye,

Oscar

Querida Alejandrina:

Oscar
