Tren y ferry desde Milán a Londres

Nos fuimos nomás para Londres, a mediados de abril, a probar suerte. ¡La animación nos llamaba!

We received your letter. It’s strange that you haven’t got ours, I did write, perhaps they got lost. Well, Mistress Alejandrina, luckily we have been paid a few quid and are going to travel around Europe a bit. Patricia and I have been working very hard and we have been spending our earnings on clothes. I bought a suit, shoes and two pairs of trousers; Patricia bought some boots and still needs to buy a whole wardrobe. We are fleecing the Italians. As we haven’t given you any presents for your birthday, Christmas, Mother’s Day, etc, we are sending you the enclosed Traveller’s Cheque. Take advantage now that it’s possible, who knows when it will happen again...Listen, go with this Traveller’s Cheque to see Patricia’s mum and she will explain what to do. Take your ID. Later, at the Bureau de Change, you will have to date it and counter-sign it at the back. I repeat, go with Patricia’s mum who is used to that kind of transactions. Ok, Madame, the girl and I are going to Paris to do some sightseeing. I am waiting for confirmation of a fortnight job in England. It would be wonderful to be able to go. We would come back to Buenos Aires around the end of May. I will confirm this soon. How are you all?
Please write a long letter telling us about everyone and everything over there. How are things, Teresa? You also are getting too lazy to write. Jorge, have you been able to carry out any of your magnificent businesses? Did I tell you we went to Florence? Yes, I did tell you, extremely nice.Have you seen the Spitale again? Please phone them and ask them not to be lowlives and to write. Did they show you any photos?

I’m writing a couple of days later. I was called from London to go for 3 weeks to do some work and we are leaving on Tuesday 13th. I will write as soon as I get there. Afterwards we’ll come back to Milan to collect our luggage and decide on the date of our return to Buenos Aires.I am very happy; we will work with a North American friend who, luckily for us, speaks perfect Spanish. His wife is already a friend of Patricia. We plan to have a good time and earn good money. The English are famed for paying well. The spring hasn’t got here yet and the weather is still shitty. Recibimos tu cartita. Me extraña que me digas que no recibiste cartas nuestras, yo te escribí, por ahí se perdieron.Bueno, Doña Ale, hemos tenido suerte de cobrar unos mangos y nos vamos a ir a pasear por esos pagos de Europa. Patricia y yo estuvimos trabajando como locos y con lo que cobramos nos compramos un kilo de ropa. Yo me compré un traje, zapatos y dos pantalones. Patricia se compró botas y todavía tiene que comprarse todo un ajuar. Como no te regalamos nada ni en tu cumpleaños, Navidad, el día de la madre, etc, te mandamos este “traveller cheque”. Aprovechá ahora que puedo, después quizá cuándo.Oíme, con este “traveller” debes ir a ver a la mamá de Patricia, ella te va a explicar qué tenés que hacer. Andá con tus documentos. Después hay que ponerle la fecha y firmarlo atrás, pero eso hacelo sólo en la casa de cambio. Repito, andá con la madre de Patricia que está baqueana en estos asuntos.Bueno Doña, con la nena nos vamos a ir a París a pasear un poco. Me tienen que confirmar aún un llamado para trabajar en Inglaterra 15 días. Sería estupendo poder ir. Mi regreso a Buenos Aires será más o menos para fines de mayo. Pronto lo confirmaré.¿Cómo están ustedes? Escribí una carta larga contando de la gente y las cosas de por allí. ¿Cómo van las cosas, Teresa? Vos también estás vagoneta para escribir.Jorge, ¿Has podido realizar alguno de tus negocios extraordinarios?No sé si os conté que estuvimos en Florencia. Si, lo conté. Escribo un par de días más tarde. Me llamaron para ir a Londres a trabajar por tres semanas. Vamos a ir el martes 13. En cuanto llego te escribo. Después de allí volveremos a Milano, recogeremos los bártulos y decidiremos la fecha justa de nuestro retorno a Buenos Aires.Estoy muy contento. Vamos a trabajar con un amigo norteamericano que para fortuna nuestra habla perfectamente el español. Su mujer ya es medio amiga de Patricia. Pensamos pasarla muy bien y ganar mucha guita. Los ingleses tienen fama de pagar bien.Te aclaro que aquí no llegó aún la primavera y los días siguen siendo bastante mierdosos. Bueno, me despido. Chau, besos a todos,
