Work trip to New York - Viaje de trabajo a Nueva York

London, 27th April 1989

Dear Alejandrina,

Here I am, about to mount my horse, ready to depart to New York (I am flying off in a couple of hours) where I am going to work for 5 days.
Patricia is well, Pablo is well, Francesca is well, I am well.
It is raining non-stop although we’ve had a wonderful winter. Maybe God heard the prayers of gardeners who were complaining about the lack of water.

At the end of May Patricia and the children will be going to Ibiza to visit Tala, who is a bit poorly. They will arrive there when Pamela, who lives in London now, comes back. It seems they will have to operate Pamela’s baby from a hernia, poor thing, such a tiny baby.

Our young friend Patricio Bisso came to visit us, he is an Argentinean who lives in Brazil. He designs costumes for the cinema. He appears in “The Kiss of the Spider Woman” (in which he plays the friend of the homosexual man). In a strip-tease scene he blows up the balloons that cover his body. Now he is preparing a film to be shot in Argentina, entitled “Naked Tango”. It is an American production and he came here looking for 1920’s fashions.

We are all very happy here, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Margaret Thatcher’s government. It is all very nice, very cheerful, such a nice and loving lady. If we are lucky, maybe they’ll vote her in for another 10 years.

In New York I will attend meetings in agencies on Friday (today it’s Thursday) and Monday. If I can, I will go sightseeing on Sunday. Luckily the weather there seems to be better than here at the moment. If I take any good photograph I will send you a print.

Pablo is bigger and more loutish every day and Francesca every day more spoilt. They take, respectively, after their father and mother.

Querida Alejandrina:

Aquí estoy al pie del caballo, listo para partir a New York (en un par de horas salgo) donde iré a laburar por 5 días.
Patricia bien, Pablo bien, Francesca bien, yo bien. No para de llover, y eso que pasamos un invierno magnífico. Debe ser que Dios oyó las plegarias de los jardineros que se quejaban de la falta de agua.Patricia y los críos irán a fin de mayo a visitar a Tala, que anda medio clueca. Llegarán cuando Pamela, que vive en Londres, vuelva para acá. A la bebita de Pamela la tendrían que operar de una hernia, pobre, tan chiquitita.

Nos vino a visitar nuestro joven amigo Patricio Bisso, un argentino que vive en Brasil. Es diseñador de ropas para cine. Hizo “El beso de la mujer araña” (allí se lo ve como amigo del homosexual). En una escena hace un strip-tease, reventando los globos con los que se cubre el cuerpo. Ahora está preparando una película que se filmará en Argentina, que se llamará “Tango desnudo”. Es una producción americana y vino aquí a buscar ropa de los años 20.

Aquí estamos todos muy felices, celebrando los 10 años de Margaret Thatcher en el gobierno. Todo muy lindo, muy alegre, una señora tan simpática y cariñosa. Si tenemos suerte, por ahí la votan por 10 años más.

En New York tendré meetings (mitines) en agencias el viernes (hoy es jueves) y el lunes. Si puedo pasearé un poco el domingo. Por suerte, el tiempo parece ser mejor que aquí. Si saco alguna foto linda te mando una copia.

Pablo cada vez más grande y bruto y Francesca cada vez más malcriada. Salen al padre y la madre respectivamente.
