The autumn 1987 is here - Llegó el otoño de 1987

London, 14th October 1987
Dear Alejandrina,

A few days ago we got your letter with the lovely little drawings of Francesca and Pablo. They liked them very much but Francesca especially loved them and decided they belong to her. She took them to her room saying ecstatically: “Thank you grandma! Thank you for this drawing!” She was very happy and immediately made a drawing of you that I am enclosing.
I am also enclosing some photos from the summer. Some are of the garden and in others we are in Italy. I am sending them all to you instead of sharing them with Teresa and Alicia so after showing them you can keep the photos together. Next time I will send some to them.

As you can see, both the children and Oscar are very well. We’ve had a very good holiday, it is just a shame the summer is so short compared to the winter! The autumn is already here and the cold has started; although it’s not too cold yet, by December and January it gets hard. Luckily our house is already finished and we have central heating, so we are very well, but the summer is so nice…

I’m including a photo of the garden last winter and it was so empty, everything loses the leaves and the garden becomes a desert; then in spring the whole garden is reborn and becomes a picture, full of flowers and colour. In the one in which the children are together you can see the willow and part of the garden at the start of the summer. I think in the next roll there are more photos of the garden I can send you.

Regarding the packages, we haven’t received either of them. It is a great pity, especially after the effort you put into sending them. Don’t worry, it is possible that one of them will arrive or will go back to you because of an error in the address. Please don’t send anything else for a while; otherwise it will be a waste of time and money. I’ve sent a couple of cassettes to Teresa’s Pablo separately, to see if they arrive. This is the first time in a long while that I send something and I hope they will not get lost.

Well, I will say goodbye. Oscar is as busy as always, but happy. Pablo is very well and doing well at school, and Francesca is a little cookie. Kisses,

Querida Alejandrina,

Hace unos días llegó su carta, con los lindísimos dibujitos de Francesca y Pablo. Les gustaron mucho a los dos, pero sobre todo Francesca se los llevó a su pieza y decidió que eran de ella, y decía encantada: “¡Gracias abuela! ¡Gracias por este dibujo!” Se puso tan contenta y enseguida hizo un dibujo para Ud que le mando con ésta.

También van aquí algunas fotos de este verano. En algunas se ve el jardín de casa y en otras estamos en la playa en Italia. Ser las mando todas a Ud en lugar de dividirlas con Teresa y Alicia, así Ud se las muestra y las tiene todas juntas. La próxima vez les mando a ellas.

Como ve, tanto los chicos como Oscar están muy bien, pasamos muy lindas vacaciones ¡ lástima que el verano se hace tan corto comparado con el invierno! Ya tenemos aquí el otoño y empezó el frío, que ahora no es tanto, pero para diciembre y enero se hace duro. Por suerte ahora nuestra casa está lista y tenemos calefacción, así que estamos bien, pero es tan lindo el verano...

Le mando una foto del jardín al final del invierno pasado y estaba vacío, todo pierde las hojas y se ve tan desierto, después en primavera todo renace y se pone hermoso, lleno de flores y color. En la que están juntos los chicos se ve el sauce y parte del jardín en principios del verano. En el próximo rollo creo que tengo más fotos del jardín para mandarle.

En cuanto a los paquetes, ninguno de los dos llegó. Es una grna pena, sobre todo por el sacrificio que a Ud le cuesta. No se preocupe, puede ser que todavía uno llega o le llega de vuelta por algún error en la dirección. Por un tiempo no mande más, si no es una pérdida de tiempo y dinero. Yo le mandé a Pablo de Teresa un par de cassettes, separadamente, a ver si le llegan. Es la primera vez que mando algo para allá, espero que no se pierdan.

Bueno, me despido. Oscar como siempre anda ocupado, pero contento. Pablo está muy bien y va bien en la escuela, y Francesca hecha una loquita.
