December 1977 - Diciembre de 1977

Dear mama:
Excuse my delay in writing! I have been extremely busy and only now can I sit and write. We have already got two letters from you. Last weekend I went to Paris and the week before to Holland, as always for work.
OK , the kid sleeps (not necessarily every night, but sleeps) bringing some rest and peace to this house. His mouth is full of teeth (well, not completely full, but almost). His two upper front teeth are separated by a gap and two more are showing either side.
On the bottom jaw he’s got the two he already had plus two more coming. It must be the only seven-month-old baby sporting Gardel’s smile.

And he almost walks! Yes, yes, if we hold him by the arms he makes little steps. He stands up by holding onto the sides of his playpen. He’s got a lot of hair and is a little rascal, very cheeky, always with a big smiling mouth.

Patricia is very very well and I think she’ll add a few lines at the end. OK, lets get to the point: Did you get the camera? You don’t say anything and Tito did not write to let us know what he thinks, which makes us very angry with you because you don’t say if they took it when you passed through customs or, if that is not the case, with Tito for being such a wimp. Perhaps it’s true that the Argentineans are dodgy.
How is my Gambino brother in law? How is his job going? Is he working? What about his frame of mind?
Is Teresa’s health getting better?

We are now in winter (to be sang with Stormy Weather music): CLOUDY DAY… RAINY AND WINDY EVERYWHERE…SHITTY WEATHERRR!!!

The TV programme you liked so much, the one with absurd sports, is not shown anymore. Christmas, which here is something pathetic, is coming and they show terrible programmes on TV, full of that soppy, tearful, Christmassy “humanity” that makes one feel like converting to Mohammedanism to avoid putting up with any more Christmases. I repeat: here it is the middle of winter, so it’s dark and cold and lonely, completely different than over there.

Going back to Pablito, he is such a character. We’ll soon send photos of his “new look”. He looks something like this:
He makes us laugh with his crazy face. He doesn’t look like a baby any more, now he looks like a little boy, you’ll see.
At the moment we are drinking a lovely cup of tea in the dining room. We moved the table and now there seems to be more space.

Well, I’ll stop here. Many kisses to all, all, all, of you. Special greetings to granny!
Ciao,
Oscar

Dear Alejandrina,

Oscar has already said everything so I can only repeat that Pablito is every day more beautiful and lovely. I am getting on much better with my work and the baby lets me sleep a bit more, although he still wakes up at 5 in the morning to breastfeed and sometimes he also wakes up during the night. But he seems to be getting more regular. We are very well because the baby keeps us happy. He is a treasure! I have developed a roll of photos and I will have copies made to send you all. Don’t get to angry with us for not writing sooner, although we are indeed angry with everyone else, except you and granny, for not writing to us. Many kisses from your little grandchild and me,

Patricia.

Querida mama:

Perdón por la tardanza en escribir! Estuve ocupadísimo y recién ahora puedo sentarme a hacerlo.

Chau!
Oscar.

Querida Alejandrina,

Dear Patrizia
Thanks for your kind attention.
I'm so sorry to have lost the contacts with them, but the life often drive us for different roads. Now i remember all of Grillo. He was with us for a short period and he painted one portrait of me named "Stefano: one angel in the hell or one devil in paradise?" (also this lost in my many moves) :(.
You can imagine? now i'm living as retired in a small island of the south of Italy close to the Sicily.
Thanks to you one more time
A big hug to you and your hubby Grillo.
my best whishes
