A la espera del nuevo Grillo - Awaiting the new Grillo

London, 25th November 1976

Dear Alejandrina:

Today we received your last, with great remorse because we haven’t written for some time. Are we forgiven?
We are both working very hard, myself between naps. I am over the first three months so no more nausea and vomits. My strength is back but although I have daily naps I am moving more slowly. Don’t worry, I am looking after myself, I don’t do anything strenuous but apart from that I carry on normally because the doctor told me that when one is used to being very active shouldn’t stop just because of pregnancy, it’s a matter of common sense. I am very well, just entering the fifth month. There is a noticeable bump and to see myself pregnant seems unbelievable. I still can’t get used to the idea, although the baby’s room is painted and the cot, pram and little bathtub are ready. I was lucky to buy everything from a friend that had bought it new for her baby daughter and who left London. Now I will start arranging everything in the room and hanging beautiful pictures drawn by the dad on the walls.
I am also about to start knitting little cardigans and to prepare the first clothes. Oscar and I are impatient to see the baby and to have it with us. Oscar is fascinated by my belly, he’s very happy, we both seem to be in a kind of dotage. Could it be that we are going to spoil the poor baby? I hope not. Soon, when the pregnancy shows a bit more, we will take some photos to send you so you can see your grandchild before it’s born.

It’s such a shame you have not been able to see our film yet. García is not behaving well. Maybe he hasn’t found a projector, perhaps we should remind him. We thought all of you had already seen it, what a shame!

Ah! Many thanks for the packets, although we haven’t received them yet, by land it probably takes over a month. If by the beginning of December they have not arrived we’ll use the numbers to reclaim from the post office.

I am glad everyone is well, especially Fátima, congratulations for the baby boy! He must be beautiful! What did they call him? How happy must they all be!
We have also received a letter from granny, congratulations to her as well for the great grandson! Please thank her and aunty Delia for the things they sent us, I cannot wait for them to arrive.
Now I must say goodbye, Oscar is also writing and I want you to know that he is looking very nice, he is very good and very happy. Querida Alejandrina:

Hoy llegó su última carta, que nos dio muchos remordimientos porque hace tanto que no le escribimos. Nos perdona?
Estamos trabajando mucho los dos, y yo entre siesta y siesta. Los primeros tres meses ya pasaron así que ya se me fueron las náuseas y vómitos y me volvió el vigor, aunque todos los días duermo la siesta y hago todo más lentamente. No se preocupe que me cuido y no hago esfuerzos, pero aparte de eso hago vida normal pues el médico me dijo que si uno está acostumbrado a la actividad no hay que parar todo por el embarazo. Siempre dentro de los razonable. Me siento muy bien, ya entré en el quinto mes, aunque reciencito. La pancita ya se nota y me parece increíble verme embarazada. Aún no me acostumbro a la idea, aunque ya está pintada la piecita del bebé y tenemos ya la cuna, el coche, la bañadera y otras cosas más, que le compré a una amiga que se fue de Londres y tenía todo casi nuevo de su hijita. Así que ahora voy a empezar a poner las cosas en la piecita y a decorar las paredes con hermosos dibujos del padre. También estoy por empezar a tejerle batitas y a preparar las primeras ropitas. Tanto Oscar como yo estamos impacientes por que llegue el bebé, no vemos la hora de verlo y tenerlo. A Oscar le maravilla mi panza, está muy felíz, en fín, parecemos dos chochos. Será que lo vamos a malcriar al pobre bebé? Espero que no. Dentro de poco, cuando se me note más el embarazo, vamos a sacar unas fotos para que vea a su nieto/a antes de que nazca.

Nos dio mucha pena que todavía no haya podido ver nuestra película. García no se portó bien. Por ahí no pudo conseguir el proyector, habría que insistirle. ¡Nosotros creíamos que ya la habrían visto todos! ¡Qué macana!

¡Ah! Muchísimas gracias por las encomiendas, aunque todavía no llegaron. Por tierra seguro que tardan más de un mes. Si no llegan para principios de diciembre vamos a reclamar en el correo, con los números.
Me alegro mucho de que estén todos bien, sobre todo Fátima, felicitaciones por el nene. ¡Debe ser hermoso! ¿Cómo se llama? Me imagino cómo estarán todos de contentos. Recibimos también una carta de la abuelita, felicitaciones a ella también por el biznieto! Por favor, déles las gracias a la abuelita y a tía Delia por las cosas que mandaron, no veo la hora de que lleguen.

Bueno, ahora me despido, Oscar también está escribiendo, y quiero que sepan que está muy lindo y bueno, y muy felíz.
