London, 20th July 1977

Dear Teresa,

Thank you for your letter and congratulations. My little Pablo is huge, he is only two and a half months old and is already “doing things”, such as smiling and chatting a lot. He adores a good natter and to be entertained. He is an adorable baby and with Oscar sometimes we ask ourselves why didn’t we have a baby earlier. It is lovely to have a little son; we both have a lot of fun with him. Alejandrina will love her new grandson. I hope your little Pablo won’t miss her too much, tell him that this Pablo is just borrowing granny for a little while and we’ll return her later. I would love for you all to meet him now but it will have to be when he is a little older. For now, I hope you’ll have an idea of what he is like from the photos I sent your mum and Alicia (when I have more I will send you some) although he is more beautiful in person (how we mothers dote on our children!). He is always smiling and “talking”, he says “ago” and “ajo”, in English and in Spanish, with excellent pronunciation. This child is very intelligent.


His father is so proud that his shirt is getting too small (partly due to his getting fatter). Yesterday I took him to the studio where Oscar works and he caused great commotion and admiration. He is so like Oscar that everyone was asking when would he grow a beard because that is all he needs to be Oscar’s spitting image.
OK Teresa, give everyone my love. We have to write to granny but tell her that her great new grandson and we send her much love.

Querida Teresa:

Gracias por tu carta y las felicitaciones. Mi Pablito está enorme, ya tiene 2 meses y medio y ya “hace cosas” como reírse y charlar muchísimo. No hay cosa que le guste más que la charla y que le jueguen. Es un bebé amoroso y con Oscar a veces pensamos por qué no lo habremos tenido antes.
Es muy lindo tener un hijito y los dos nos divertimos mucho con él. Creo que a Alejandrina le va a encantar cuando vea a su nuevo nieto. Espero que tu Pablito no la extrañe demasiado, decile que éste Pablo se la pide prestada a la abuela por un tiempito nada más, después se la devuelve. Me gustaría tanto que Uds. lo conozcan! Pero que se le va a hacer, ya lo conocerán cuando esté más grandecito. Por ahora espero que se den una idea de cómo es por las fotos que les mandé a tu mamá y a Alicia (no me quedan más, más adelante te mando a vos). Aunque en persona es mucho más precioso (como somos de chochas las madres).

Se la pasa riéndose y charlando, dice “agó” y “ajó” en inglés y en español, con muy buena pronunciación. Es muy inteligente este chico.

El padre está tan orgulloso que no cabe en su camisa (aunque eso en parte se debe a su gordura habitual). Ayer lo llevé al estudio donde trabaja Oscar y produjo gran revuelo y admiración. Se parece mucho a Oscar y todo el mundo me preguntaba cuándo se va a dejar la barba. Es lo único que le falta para ser idéntico.
Bueno Teresa, dales muchos cariños a todos, a la abuelita tenemos que escribirle pero decile que le mandamos muchos besos de nosotros y de su nuevo biznieto.

PD Ahora es el día siguiente y acaba de llegar carta de Alejandrina con la noticia de tu nuevo bebé en camino. ¡Te felicitamos! ¡Qué grande se va haciendo la familia!
