Dear Alejandrina:

At last I have time to write and you cannot imagine the pile of letters waiting to be answered. I am starting with yours because you are the one who always waits for longer. It’s embarrassing to always go on about how busy I am, but it is true. Nevertheless, there is no need to repeat it because you know already.

About your trip, there are direct flights to London now, so I don’t think you will have problems. It seems Aerolíneas Argentinas is very good but make sure you will not have a long wait in Rio, Madrid or anywhere. If Carlos Maglione can help you to choose and buy the ticket, like the time before, so much the better. It would be good if you could arrive in Heathrow, which is nearer home, but if you arrive in Gatwick, like before, it doesn’t matter. I don’t know whether there are any flights to Heathrow.

We got a very nice letter from Pablo Oscar but we have not replied yet. I would like our Pablo to write him but it is difficult… He has the best intentions but the moment never comes.



The children are very excited about your visit; they are so looking forward to seeing you and if you come at the end of June mid July you would have all summer here while they are in their school holiday. Francesca’s school breaks in mid July and Pablo’s at the end of the month. At the same time, you would avoid some of the winter there and would be here for Oscar’s birthday. I think that a stay of six weeks to two months would be right, especially during the children’s holidays. We can go out and enjoy the summer, which I hope will be a decent one.

For the moment we are seeing the first signs of spring, although little by little. Yesterday the first frogspawn appeared in the garden pond and some of the bushes and bulbs are flowering. The strange thing is that it hasn’t rained for a long time and we have had some years of draught, so when the rain comes it will not be enough. Hopefully it will not rain all summer!

The children are well, Pablo is doing very well at school, working a bit harder, not too much, but at least the teachers are happy with him. Although he could make a bit more of an effort, he is working quite well. Francesca is about to change school because she was loosing ground and needed private lessons to help her catch up. Education in this country is going through a lot of changes that affect the children at the moment; nobody seems to know what is going on and the government changes direction every day, so we have moved her to a better school but as it is farther away there is more travelling involved.

Querida Alejandrina:

Por fin tengo un minuto para escribir, y no se imagina la pila de cartas para contestar que me esperan, pero empiezo por Ud. que es la que más espera. Me da no sé qué siempre decir qué ocupada estoy, pero es verdad, aunque no hay necesidad de decírselo porque Ud. ya lo sabe, o se imagina.

En cuanto a su viaje, ahora hay vuelos directos a Londres, así que no creo que tenga problemas. Parece que Aerolíneas Argentinas es muy buena, pero asegúrese que no tenga que esperar mucho en cambios en Río, o Madrid o por ahí. Si Carlos Maglione puede ayudarla a elegir y sacar pasaje, como la vez pasada, mejor, así no tiene problemas. Sería lindo si pudiera llegar a Heathrow, que es más cerca de casa, pero si llega a Gatwick no importa, es como la vez anterior. No sé si hay vuelos a Heathrow.

Recibimos carta de Pablo Oscar, muy linda, y todavía no hemos contestado. Me gustaría que Pablo le escribiera pero es tan difícil... Tiene las mejores intenciones, pero el momento nunca llega.



Los chicos están muy entusiasmados con su venida, tienen muchas ganas de verla y si viniera para fin de junio, o mediados de julio, tendría todo el verano aquí mientras ellos están de vacaciones. Francesca termina a mediados y Pablo a fin de julio la escuela. De paso se ahorraría un poco de invierno de allá y estaría para el cumpleaños de Oscar. Yo creo que un mes y medio o dos de visita andaría bien, justo para las vacaciones de los chicos. Podemos pasear y disfrutarnos del verano, que espero que sea decente.

Por ahora ya empiezan las señales de la primavera, aunque de a poquito. Ayer aparecieron huevitos de rana en el estanque del jardín y algunos arbustos ya están floreciendo, así como los primeros bulbos. Lo que es muy raro es que hace mucho que no llueve, ya llevamos varios años de sequía y cuando lleve no llega a ser suficiente. Esperemos que no se le dé por llover en el verano!



Los chicos andan bien, Pablo va muy bien en la escuela, trabajando un poco más, no demasiado, pero por lo menos los maestros están satisfechos con él y, aunque podría todavía hacer un esfuercito más, se está aplicando bastante. Francesca ahora cambia de escuela porque donde estaba se estaba atrasando y tenía que tomar clases particulares para ayudarla a adelantar. En este momento la educación en este país está en revolución y hay muchos cambios juntos que afectan a los chicos porque nadie sabe qué está pasando y el gobierno cambia de dirección y de ideas todos los días, así que la cambiamos a otro lado, aunque queda más lejos de casa y hay que viajar más todos los días.
