Letter to granny María Morgadinha - Carta a la Abuelita María Morgadinha

London, 16 January 1979

Dear Granny,

I am writing while Oscar, the great worker, is at work and I have a little time because Pablo is having a nap. I hope you’ve had a lovely time at Christmas and a very happy birthday! We spent the holidays at home, some friends came over and it was a nice, restful period. When he got up in the morning on Christmas day Pablo found many presents to open. He loved the little chicken and the kitten and they joined his army of animals. He got a chimp and an elephant, a tiger and a hippo for Xmas, but he already had bears, a mouse and some cats, so he needed a chicken, eh?. He had so much fun opening the packages that when he finished he looked everywhere for more, even under the bed, in case he had missed any. On New Year’s Day it snowed copiously and everything was covered in white and was very beautiful. We wrapped up well to go out to play and Pablo went crazy in the snow. He run about, laughed, jumped and rolled in the snow. We had two lovely days until it got dirty and became slushy. The cold continues and it’s even freezing but we have central heating at home and don’t feel it too much.

Pablo is growing very fast, speaks quite well and appears to be older than his two years, although his second birthday will be in may. I think he takes after Oscar because he is tall for his age and his little body is strong and broad like his dad’s. He is a nice little boy, very friendly and good tempered but he also knows how to get what he wants and sometimes is very stubborn (just like his mum and dad).

Our life here is always the same, Oscar works very hard but enjoys what he does, I left my work to look after Pablo and we both have a good time together. We are waiting for better weather to go out more and start going swimming again. Pablo loves playing in the water but we’ve had to stop it in the winter, which this year seems colder and longer. It’s very hard because it gets dark very early and going out is difficult. We go to the park when we can but most of the time we stay indoors.

One piece of news is that my sister Pamela is getting married to a very nice boy and I think they’ll get married in London. Thank you for your good wishes for my family, they are all well. My mum lives in Spain but if Pamela gets married here she’ll come over for the wedding and we’ll get together at our house.
That is all the news I have but I send you a big kiss from Pablo II, Patricia and your big grandson who writes below:

A BIG KISS FROM THE BEST GRANDSON IN THE WORLD!
OSCAR

Querida abuelita:
